Thrivent Financial is offering a workshop on Saturday, August 7th to help couples find common ground with money management and work together to reach your goals.

 

From Me to We is a 50-minute education workshop that takes a stewardship approach to helping you prepare for your financial future. At this workshop you will learn to:

• Identify your values and attidues about money.
• Set goals and use a budget to help you reach them.
• Manage your money together.

Wedding Insurance

You can never be too careful when it comes to your wedding day.  If it is in your budget, you may want to consider Wedding Insurance.  Policies can range from as little as a couple hundred dollars but can save you thousands and provide some peace of mind when the unexpected happens at your wedding.

You have a few options when it comes to wedding insurance: Event Insurance covers any damage to your wedding gown, etc, vendor no-shows, weather cancellations, illness cancellations.

Also available is Wedding Liability Insurance that protects you from any injuries or property damage that that takes place at your wedding.  For these two types of wedding insurance check out WedSafe and Travelers.

Not covered by WedSafe and Travelers is Change of Heart Insurance.  Heaven forbid you or your spouse gets cold feet and the wedding is cancelled.  If you forsee this being a possibility you may want to consider this type of insurance which you can buy through Fireman's Fund.

Limited Budget Solutions

I recently met with a bride who told me that she's on a limited budget, and wanted to know what her priorities should be for the money she and her fiance have to spend on their wedding day.  This is a common question today ~ everyone wants to stretch their dollars to the limit, and for good reason!  But, my answer to her and to any bridal couple is always the same in this area ~ what is the most important part of the day for you as a couple?  It could be the music during the service, the photographs or videography that you're going to have to remember your special day, or it could be a great party at the reception.  Whatever is most important to you is where your focus should be.  And, then decide how many guests you can realistically host.  It all comes down to a budget, and while this is difficult for a lot of couples, wedding planners deal with budgets all the time, and are always willing to help you in that area, even if it's for an hourly consultation, it's worth the money spent!

DIY Flowers

It's wedding season, there are weddings everywhere! They sure are happy occasions, made even happier when the new Mr. and Mrs. have stayed within their budget. One of the trends that I'm seeing is DIY (do it yourself) flowers.

Personally, I would much rather entrust this special occasion to a reputable florist who will work within my bride's budget ~ I had a bride who insisted on doing her own reception flowers in order to save money, and was totally panicked the day before the wedding when she realized that she didn't have time to make arrangements for the reception.

It's just not worth it, dear brides, to try to save money in this area, unless your most favorite aunt happens to be a hobby florist and wants more than anything to share her talent with you on your wedding day. The Economy vs. Your Wedding

Just great ~ the country goes into an economic "R" for recession, and you're planning the most special day of your life ... so far! Don't let the duldrums get to you, but do plan wisely. Carefully prepare your budget so that you don't run up unnecessary debts ~ by all means, do let a wedding professional help you. They know all the ins and outs, and can help you save money in the long run.

Determine who's paying for what, right up front. Her parents, his parents, bride & groom, lay all the cards on the table so that there are no surprises. Remember to communicate with all involved, even though it's your wedding.

Use your imagination, cut where you need to. Start by paring the guest list and send announcements to those you couldn't invite ~ they'll still love you and be so excited that you found that special someone, and you'll save a lot of money!
